Alumnae Association Board of Directors

Mission Statement The Alumnae Board of Directors provides volunteer leadership for the Alumnae Association by working with the Saint Mary's College community to design and promote opportunities for alumnae to connect with each other and the College. In doing so, the Board serves the College in the ongoing development of a strong Alumnae Association which supports and advances the mission of Saint Mary's College.

Marilyn Wolter Laboe '61

Marilyn Wolter Laboe ’61 received her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education and taught Home Economics in Warren, Michigan from 1961 to 1963. Marilyn has been married for 45 years toTom Laboe (ND ’57), and they have nine children and 16 grandchildren. Marilyn is very active in the Alumnae VISA Program and recruits for Saint Mary’s College in her area of southeastern Michigan, especially at Saint Mary Catholic Central High School where she has worked for the past 19 years as the Bookstore Manager and Records Secretary.

Holly Rieger Curley '80

Holly Rieger Curley ’80 received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. After graduation, she moved to Chicago and worked in recruiting and sales. She was actively involved in the Chicago Alumnae Club in the 80’s and early 90’s, serving at one time as the club president. She has also chaired several Reunion Gift Campaigns. Holly is a homemaker and resides in Los Altos, California with her husband Bob (ND ‘80), and two children.

Judy Mardoian Gavoor '76

Judy Mardoian Gavoor graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Social Studies and a Secondary Education Certificate. She also completed a Master of Arts degree in Guidance and Counseling at Michigan State University in 1982. Until her recent move to Illinois, Judy was the Counselor for the School to Career program at Wilton High School and the Wilton/Westport Alternative Night School in Connecticut. Judy has served as a teacher, tutor, coach, and youth advisor in her community. She has contributed significantly to her local alumnae clubs in the capacity of event chair, event hostess, and reporter since 1980; as a club officer in Detroit from 1980 to 1990, and in Fairfield/Westchester from 1994 to 2003. She has been active in the VISA program from its inception, and received the Alumnae Visa Volunteer of the Year award. Judy and her husband Mark have a son, and a daughter who attends Saint Mary’s.

Sheila Conlin Brown '56

Sheila Conlin Brown graduated in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition, and served as a dietetic intern in Hines VA Hospital in Illinois in 1957. Sheila served as a clinical dietitian at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton, Illinois, from 1970 to 1983 and as a consulting dietitian for various nursing homes from 1983 to 1990. She and her husband, Dick (ND ’56) reside in Princeton, Illinois. They are the parents of five children and have twelve grandchildren. Sheila’s past involvement with Saint Mary’s includes: serving as co-chair of Special Gifts for the Sesquicentennial Campaign; Reunion Gift Campaign Committee for her 45th reunion; and also served on the Madeleva Steering Committee. Her community service involved serving as a past board member for Covenant Children’s Home and also a volunteer for the Mobile Meals Program.

Jill Moore Clouse ’99

Jill Moore Clouse ’99, graduated with a major in History and a minor in Psychology. After graduation, she moved to Chicago and worked in the corporate world in a human resources/business development capacity. Jill has her Master’s Degree in Higher Education Policy and Administration from Northwestern University. She currently works part-time for the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern in Admissions and Career Management, as well as for the School of Education at Northwestern, as a Master’s Thesis Research Coach and Teaching Associate. She also serves as a Board Member for the Chicago East Alumnae Club. Jill and her husband Michael have a one-year-old son.

Mary Sue Dunn Curry '85

Mary Sue Dunn Curry ’85 received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and an MBA degree form Adelphi University. She was Vice President and Human Resources Manager of Fleet Bank from 1985 to 1996. She has served as the Co-President for the Saint Mary's Alumnae Club of the Carolinas, and has represented the College at College Fairs as needed. Her involvement in the community includes volunteer work with Cub Scouts, P.T.A. and Religious Education at her parish. She enjoys reading, walking, swimming and playing tennis. Mary Sue and her husband Gerald reside in Charlotte, North Carolina with their four sons.

Nora Barry Fischer '73

Nora Barry Fischer ’73 graduated magna cum laude, with a B.A. in History and Humanistic Studies. She received a Juris Doctorate from Notre Dame Law School in 1976 and was admitted to practice in Illinois, Pennsylvania and West Virginia; Third Circuit Court of Appeals; U.S. District Courts of Northern District of Illinois; Western District of Pennsylvania; Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia; and United States Supreme Court. She was Case Manager on the Executive Committee at Meyer, Darragh, Buckler, Bebenek & Eck from 1987 to 1991. She is a former National Institute of Trial Advocacy Instructor for the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and Duquesne University School of Law. Nora was a Partner and Practice Group Leader with Pietragallo, Bosick & Gordon. She is currently the District Court Judge for the Western District of Pennsylvania, sitting in Pittsburgh. Nora and her husband Donald have three children.

Sara Bateman Koehler ’70

Sara Bateman Koehler received her B.A. in Religious Studies and is active in the Indianapolis “Call to Action” and in her parish, where she teaches in the R.C.I.A. program. She also continues to teach Religious Studies at Cathedral High School, after serving as department chair there for 19 years. In addition to her participation in her Alumnae Reunion Gift Campaign, Sara has also been active in her Saint Mary’s Indianapolis Book Club, several club projects, and as a club officer in the 1990s. In 1998, she was named the Indianapolis Club “Alumna of the Year.” Sara likes to read and travel with her husband Ken who is a Manufacturer’s Representative. She and Ken have two daughters: Kathy, who lives in Indianapolis and Kelly, who lives in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.

opElizabeth Bermingham Lacy '66

Justice Elizabeth Bermingham Lacy graduated cum laude, with a B.A. in history. After teaching school for a year, she received her JD degree from the University of Texas School of Law, and her LLM from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1992. Prior to her appointment to the Virginia Supreme Court in 1988, Justice Lacy worked for the Texas Legislative Council, the Texas Attorney General's Office, the Virginia Attorney General's Office, and served as a Commissioner on the Virginia State Corporation commission. Justice Lacy was elected to a second 12-year term to the Virginia Supreme Court in 2001. Justice Lacy has served on various Boards and Committees, including the Board of Directors of the American Judicature Society, Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, Virginia Bar Association, National Association for Women Judges, Lewis Powell Inn of Court, American Bar Association Appellate Judges Conference, the American Bar Association Section on Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar, and the Advisory Council of the Central and East European Legislative Initiative. She has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Richmond School of Law. She and her husband D. Patrick Lacy, Jr. have four sons and one grandson.

LeeAnn Franks McConnell '85

LeeAnn Franks McConnell received a B.A. degree in Elementary Education from Saint Mary’s College, with a Kindergarten Endorsement. She also received an M.A. degree in Educational Administration from Western Michigan University in 1989, and certification in Elementary Principalship. She taught and served as a Principal for 10 years after graduation from Saint Mary’s. Now, she is a homemaker and a volunteer. LeeAnn is a member and past president of the Sturgis Council of the Arts, the Junior Women’s League and the Public Library Board. She also serves on the Sturgis Area Community Foundation, the Sturgis Hospital Foundation and is the Secretary of the Sturgis Board of Education. LeeAnn and her husband Brian one son.

Karen Zagrocki McDonald '76

Karen Zagrocki McDonald ’76 graduated cum laude with a B.A. in History and Secondary Education. After graduation, Karen taught junior high school for three years before embarking on a career in consumer products marketing and sales. In a career that spans more than 25 years, Karen held progressive positions at General Foods, Kraft, and Information Resources. Karen now has her own consulting firm, KareMarketing. She has been an active alumna in the Northwest Indiana, St. Louis, Houston, Fairfield County and Chicago alumnae clubs and is a past president of the Northwest Indiana and Chicago alumnae clubs (where she continues to serve on the board of directors). Karen has represented Saint Mary’s at college fairs through the Alumnae VISA Program and in 2006, chaired the Reunion Gift Campaign for her class’ 30th reunion. Currently, Karen is combining her profession and her passion, serving as Acting Assistant Vice President of Integrated Marketing Communications at Saint Mary’s. Besides her volunteer work with Saint Mary’s, Karen is one of the founding members of the Food Pantry of Saint Teresa of Avila Church in Chicago where she continues to serve on the Lead Team. Karen and her husband, Tim, who is the Senior Account Sales Director for Goliath Solutions, based in Deerfield, Illinois, enjoy residences in both Lincoln Park in Chicago and Union Pier, Michigan.

Adriana Garces Petty '01

Adriana Garces Petty ’01 graduated from Saint Mary’s College in 2001, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work. She served on the board of “Women in Touch” and the “Juneteenth” Planning Committee. She is a Minority Outreach Specialist at the Saint Joseph County Minority Health Coalition in South Bend, Indiana.

Lisa Maxbauer Price ’99

Lisa Maxbauer Price ’99 graduated with a major in
Humanistic Studies and a double minor in Creative
Writing and Art History. She worked as managing editor
of Physician's Weekly before working out of her home
as a fulltime freelance journalist for three years.
Then in 2004 she returned to an office accepting the
position of Senior Articles Editor at First for Women
magazine. She currently serves as an officer for the
New York City Alumnae Club. She resides in Manhattan
with her husband and son.

Susan M. Suchy '89

Susan M. Suchy graduated from Saint Mary's College in 1989 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and is a C.P.A. She also earned an MBA degree in Finance from DePaul University in 1997. Sue was very involved in the Chicago Alumnae Club in the early 90's, leading various networking activities and has also been involved in various Reunion Gift Campaigns. Sue has held progressive positions at Arthur Andersen, Information Resources and Sidley Austin LLP. While at Sidley Austin, Sue led the operational expansion efforts in the firm's overseas offices. Sue is now the Director of Administration of the Chicago and Minneapolis offices of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, a global law firm. Sue enjoys hiking, travel and reading and she resides in the Chicago area.

Phyllis Sullivan Van Hersett '62

Phyllis Sullivan Van Hersett graduated in 1962 with a BA in Social Sciences and minors in Mathematics and Secondary Education.  She began her career as a computer programmer for the Department of Defense at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.  She established a career in real estate in Dallas, Texas, and Spokane, Washington.  She is now an owner of Cornzapoppin, LLC, a gourmet popcorn store in Highlands Ranch, CO.  Phyllis and her husband Richard reside in Littleton, CO.  They have three children and four grandchildren.  Their two daughters, Lynn and Joan, are Saint Mary's graduates.

Abagail Van Vlerah '04

Abby Van Vlerah ’04 graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Humanistic Studies with a double minor in American History and Italian. She earned her Master of Arts degree in American Studies with a concentration in Historic Preservation from the University of Wyoming in 2006. While completing her Master’s degree, she worked for the University of Wyoming’s Center for Volunteer Service as an AmeriCorps Member and then for the Campus Activities Center at UW. She has now returned to Saint Mary's College to work as Assistant Director of Student Activities. She is active in the South Bend Alumnae Club and volunteers at the Center for the Homeless in downtown South Bend.

Rebecca Votto '93

Rebecca Votto graduated in 1993 with a B.A. in Political Science. She earned a Master of Science degree in Public Service from DePaul University in 1998. Upon completion of her studies at DePaul, Rebecca began working in mergers and acquisitions. While living in Chicago, she was active in the Chicago Alumnae Club. Currently, Rebecca works for a boutique mergers and acquisition advisory firm in Newport Beach, CA. She is also actively involved in the Los Angeles Alumnae Club.

Karen McNamara Weaver '91

Karen McNamara Weaver graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a minor in Computer Science. She started her career in Information Technology after graduation. She is currently a software delivery manager and consultant with IBM Corporation in the Global Services division. During the eight years that she lived in Dallas, Karen held various leadership positions in the Dallas/Fort Worth Alumnae Club; including two years as President. She received the SMC Alumnae VISA award for 2001-2002 and is currently active in the Kansas City Alumnae Club. She and her husband David reside in Lee’s Summit, MO with their two daughters.
