Answers to frequently asked questions.
What
do I put in the box that asks for the Saint Mary's
College Plate #?
If you are renewing a Saint Mary's license plate, put your current Saint Mary's plate number in this box,
If you are applying for a new Saint Mary's license plate and requesting a specific
4-digit number (e.g., your class year); or a 5-digit
alpha-numeric, personalized license plate (PLP), enter your request in this box.
If you are applying for a new Saint Mary's license plate and do not have a preference, please leave this box blank. The BMV will assign a number for you.
Are
there any extra costs or procedures for special numbers or
personalized license plates (PLPs)?
If
you want a 4-digit (non-alpha) special number, the BMV
charges an extra $30 Pull fee once every five years,
during the 5-year special recognition
plate cycle, in addition to the annual $15 special
recognition plate fee.
NOTE: All
low numbers 1-100 are only assigned by the Alumnae Office and must be reserved ahead of time. There is still a good choice of low numbers available, so contact Mary Beth Dominello in the Alumnae Office (574) 284-4578, if you are interested.
All numbers over 100 are assigned by the BMV on a first-come,
first-served basis and there is no additional fee charged for a number over 100 randomly assigned by the BMV.
If you want
a specific number over 100, you will need to indicate that number on your special plate application form. (It is wise to suggest an alternate, in case your first choice has already been taken.)
If
you want a 5-digit alpha-numeric PLP, the BMV charges
an extra $48 per year in addition
to the annual $15 special recognition plate fee. NOTE: By Indiana law, the PLP must be requested
a year in advance.
What is a Pull fee?
The Pull fee refers to the $30 charged by the BMV to "pull" and reserve your special number from the system and send it to your branch. It is payable only once at the beginning of each 5-year special plate cycle, or starting whenever you first apply for your special number.
Can
I get a number starting with a zero?
No,
because numbers such as "01" and "1" are
the same value in the BMV system and duplicates
are not allowed. |
