Second Half Lifts Hope Past Saint Mary's

Hope College opened the second half with a 20-0 scoring run to
take control and cruise to a 77-38 win over Saint Mary’s
Wednesday evening at the Angela Athletic Center in the MIAA opener
for both teams.
The win lifts the Flying Dutch to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in league
action while the Belles fall to 1-3 and 0-1 respectively.
In the opening frame both teams came out flat but Hope held
a 16-4 lead with 10:02 remaining in the half. The Belles chipped
away at the Flying Dutch lead and got as close as 21-15 with
1:28 left until halftime but the pre-season MIAA favorite pushed
their lead to 28-19 at intermission.
Hope used a swarming defense and forced Saint Mary’s into
a season high 26 turnovers and scored 34 points off of the home
team’s miscues. The Flying Dutch held the Belles to a season
low 20 percent from the field.
Bria Belle scored a game high 11 points while playing a team
high 24 minutes. Lindsay Lange blocked five shots for the Flying
Dutch.
Bridget Boyce recorded a team best 10 points for the Belles.
