A strong defensive and outside shooting effort enabled Olivet
to cruise to a 92-55 victory over Saint Mary’s Thursday
evening in MIAA women’s basketball action.
The win lifts Olivet to 8-5 overall and 4-0 in league while
the Belles fell to 5-8 and 3-2 respectively.
The Comets turned 25 Saint Mary’s turnovers into 33 points.
Olivet tied a MIAA season high by hitting 10 three-pointers during
a league contest.
The Comets held their largest lead in the first half at 31-14
win just under eight minutes left until intermission when the
Belles cut their deficit to 32-26 with 3:10 left in the frame.
That was as close as Saint Mary’s got as the Comets pushed
their lead to 39-28 at the break. Olivet opened the second half
on a 21-4 run in cruising to the victory.
A foursome of Comet players scored in double figures. Audrey
Graham led the way with a game high 25 points. Jennifer O’ Neil
knocked in 20 while Amy Brackenwagen (13) and Callie Reed (10)
rounded out the top scorers for Olivet.
Alison Kessler recorded a team best 13 points for the Belles.
Bridget Lipke notched 12 points while Nicole Beier scored a personal
best 12 in 27 minutes.
