BELLES 2007

With one the best seasons in Saint Mary’s history in the rearview mirror, the Belles will gear-up toward a future that could include some program firsts.

The Belles posted a school record 28 wins last year and received a regional ranking for the first time in school history. Under the guidance of second year head coach Erin Sullivan, the expectations are being lifted to a new level.

We made some major strides last year in comparison to the year before,” Sullivan said. “My goals for the future of this program are to win the conference tournament and advance to the NCAA Regional Tournament, which would be a first for a Saint Mary's softball team.”

Ten players return from a team that finished 28-13, including an 11-5 conference mark, which was good enough for a third-place finish.

The Belles look to improve even more this year on the strength of that store core of returning players. Kristin Amram, the MIAA Most Valuable Player last season, broke several Saint Mary's pitching records in her first year including most strikouts in a season (201), wins (15) and ERA (1.02) is the backbone to much of the success.

Senior shortstop Sarah Miesle earned MIAA first-team honors while posting a team best .350 batting average in starting all 41 contests at shortstop.

Sophomore Ashley Fusaro earned second-team MIAA honors while serving as both the catcher and designated player positions in recording a .311 average at the plate.

“I believe we are once again one of the top teams in the conference. I would like to not only qualify for the tournament again, but win it this year and advance to the Regional Tournament,” Sullivan said.
