Concentrations

Each candidate for a Business Administration major must develop in-depth knowledge of a particular business discipline:   Accounting, Finance, International Business, Management, or Marketing.  Each area of study requires a minimum of 12 credits in 300- and 400- level courses.  Multiple concentrations will be recorded on the student's official transcript.

Accounting The concentration in Accounting requires at least four courses from the following:
 

BUAD 301

Intermediate Accounting I

  BUAD 302 Intermediate Accounting II
  BUAD 303 Cost Accounting
  BUAD 304 Personal Income Tax
  BUAD 305 Accounting for Non-For-Profit Organizations
  BUAD 401 Advanced Accounting
  BUAD 402 Auditing
  BUAD 404 Corporate Income Tax
  BUAD 407 International Accounting
 

Although not required for graduation, students interested in sitting for the CPA Examination should plan to take an additional 5 courses: 4 upper level accounting courses and Business Law II. (Note: one of these courses can be used to satisfy the BUAD elective requirement.)

   
  150 HOUR REQUIREMENT
  The State of Indiana requires candidates to complete 150 hours of education prior to sitting for the Certified Public Accountant Examination.  Most other states have a similar requirement.  Saint Mary's offers a number of ways for students to meet the requirement.  The correct choice depends upon each student's situation and career goals.  We encourage students to discuss their needs and objectives with their faculty advisor as soon as possible.
   
Finance The concentration in Finance requires at least four courses from the following:

  BUAD 315 Management of Financial Institutions
  BUAD 317 Financial Statement Analysis
  BUAD 415 Financial Strategy with Computer Applications
  BUAD 416 International Financial Management
     
International Business The concentration in International Business requires at least four courses from the following:

  ECON 356 Comparative Economic Systems
  BUAD 407 International Accounting
  BUAD 408 Culture of Business in the French-Speaking World
  BUAD 416 International Financial Management

  BUAD 447 International Business Law
  ECON 452 International Trade and Finance
   
  * Required courses for all International Business concentrates.
  ** Taught during the summer abroad program and occasionally on the Rome Program.
    
Management The concentration in Management requires at least four courses from the following:
