Sister Elizabeth Marie (O’Connor), CSC (– May
18, 2007) Please, join in prayer of thanksgiving Sister Elizabeth Marie, the oldest girl in the O’Connor family, came to Saint Mary’s in 2000 to be a support to her younger sisters, Sister Mercedes and Sister Xavier, who were both in poor health. After each of them died she said, “They went to heaven ahead of me but I’ll be joining them soon.” And early this morning all the O’Connor girls were together again rejoicing in the presence of God. Though Sister Elizabeth Marie was petite of stature she was a dynamo of energy. She loved to travel and was ready with her suitcase at every opportunity. For 42 years, her energy was a good match for meeting the challenge of teaching junior high and senior high students. Her blend of humor and her conviction of the value of good discipline in academics, as well as conduct, won over the hearts of the teenagers in her classes. After years of teaching she allowed the softer, warmer side of her personality to emerge in the 20 years she dedicated to ministry with the elderly of her native Utah. The outpouring of love from these “elder” friends followed her to Saint Mary’s and kept her smiling and happy. May Sister Elizabeth Marie rest in peace.
