Susan Almeda

Major: Chemistry with a Biochemical concentration

Minors: Biology

After Saint Mary's: chemical technician in the pharmaceutical or chemical industry or enter the Air Force

Department Service: Susan has been a member of SMAACS.

Susan has served on the Holistic Formation Committee and in the Anti-Violence Against Women Task Force.


Jocelyn Bilas

Major: Chemistry with a Biochemical Concentration

Minors: Biology, Mathematics

After Saint Mary's: Masters program in forensic science at the University of New Haven.

Department Service: Stockroom Assistant. Josie is also a member of SMAACS and served as the publicity chair.

Research: REU program at Northwestern University (Summer 2002) titled: Chiral Induction Through Axial Ligand Substitution of Ruthenium(II)-Salen
Complexes for the Cyclopropanation of Styrene

Josie was a Resident Advisor and is a member of Psi Chi National Honor Society. She also volunteered at the Logan Center.

Josie graduates Summa cum Laude. She also is a member of Kappa Gamma Pi and Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges andwon the Mother M. Rose Elizabeth Award in Chemistry.


Lauren Brown

Major: Chemistry with a Biochemical Concentration

Minor: Biology

After Saint Mary's: Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine

Department Service: Teaching Assistant for Chemistry 121 and 122, Stockroom worker. Lauren is also a member of SMAACS

Lauren was also a member of the Collegiate Choir and a Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Lauren graduates cum Laude.


Nicole Ciminillo

Major: Chemistry

After Saint Mary's: Undecided

Department Service: Nicole has served as a Chemistry 101 and 102 Teaching Assistant and a Stockroom Assistant. She is also a member of SMAACS.

Research: Nicole served as a Lab Assistant in Biochemistry at the University of Toledo. She also participated in the REU program at Arizona State University (Summer 2002).

Nicole graduates cum Laude.


Cynthia Fidanza

Major: Chemistry with a Biochemical Concentration

Minors: Biology and English Literature

After Saint Mary's: Medical School or Service

Department Service: Teaching Assistant for Chemistry 121 and 102. Cindie was also the Student Academic Council Representative for the Department in 2002-2003. She is also a member of SMAACS.

Research: REU Program at Bowling Green State University

Cindie's other roles included serving as a Saint Mary's Right to Life Officer, a LeMans Hall Council Officer, the Italian Club, playing intermural volleyball and serving as a Late Night Olympics Representative.

Cindie graduates cum Laude.


Rachel Finley

Major: Chemistry with a Biochemical Concentration

Minors: Religious Studies

After Saint Mary's: Analytical Chemist in pharmaceutical research at ComChem Technologies in Indianapolis.

Department Service: Teaching Assistant for Chemistry 121 and 101 and a Grader for Chemistry 122. Rachel has also been a member of SMAACS and served as the fundraising chair.

Research: REU program at John Carroll University (Summer 2002) titled "Determing the Equilibrium Affinity of IRP for IRE1."

Rachel was also a Resident Advisor, Orientation Counselor, a member of the Junior board and member of her Resident Hall Council. She served as senior class president and a member of the Board of Governance.

Rachel graduates cum Laude. She is also a member of Kappa Gamma Pi and Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.


Lauren Hofer

Major: Chemistry with a Biochemical Concentration

Minors: Biology

After Saint Mary's: Undecided

Department Service: Lauren is a member of SMAACS.

Lauren was a member of the Moreau Chamber Ensemble and Leaders of a New Indiana. She also volunteered at the Childrens' Dispensary.

 


Susan Kutz

Major: Chemistry with a Biochemical Concentration

After Saint Mary's: A commission in the Army in the Medical Service Corps, Fort Sam Houston, TX

Department Service: Teaching Assistant in Chemistry 121 and 122 and Physics by Inquiry (Phys 101). Susan is also the Co-President of SMAACS.

Research: Susan did a summer internship at Brewer Science in Rolla, MO.

Susan was a Resident Advisor during her junior year. She was also in the Army ROTC program at Notre Dame. Susan was a catcher on the Varsity softball team at Saint Mary's.


Jennifer Mason

Major: Chemistry with a Biochemical Concentration

Minors: Mathematics and Biology

After Saint Mary's: Graduate School

Department Service: Teaching Assistant for Chemistry 221 and 222. She is also a member of SMAACS.

Research: "Practical Uses of Acid/Amine Crystalline Systems as Molecular Sorting Devices" done at the University of Notre Dame in the summer of 2001.

Jennifer graduates Magna cum Laude.

   
 

 
Christine Maurhoff

Major: Chemistry

Minors: Mathematics

After Saint Mary's: Graduate School.

Department Service: Teaching Assistant for CHemistry 111, 124, 121 and 122. Christine has also been a Stockroom Assistant and a Prep Assistant for Chemistry 121 and 122. She was also a member of SMAACS. Christine organized the Chemistry section for Hypatia Day for two years.

Research: Intern Position at Albany Molecular Research, Inc.

Christine has also been the RHA Fundraising Chair, a campus tour guide and overnight hostess. She has been on the Regina Hall Council and is a member of the Math Club.

 

 

Mackenzie McGee

Major: Chemistry with a Biochemical Concentration

After Saint Mary's: Medical School at Loyola University, Chicago

Department Service: Teaching Assistant for Chemistry 101 and Chemistry 221, Grader for Chemistry 122 and 319. Mackenzie is also the Publicity Chair for SMAACS.

Research:" Synthesis and purification of poly-N-substituted Glycines" at Northewestern University - Summer 2001. Mackenzie will also work in the Infectious Diseases Lab of the Pediatric Oncology Program at St. Jude's Childrens' Hospital in the summer of 2002.

Mackenzie was in the Notre Dame Marching, Varsity and Concert Bands, was a Campus Music Minister, has volunteered at Saint Joseph's Hospital and the South Bend Center for the Homeless and was a participant in the Friends with Sisters program.

Mackenzie graduates Summa cum Laude. She is also a member of Kappa Gamma Pi.


Erin Moran

Major: Chemistry with a Biochemical Concentration

Minors: Biology and English Literature

After Saint Mary's: Medical School at Indiania University

Research: REU Program at Syracuse University (Summer 2002) examining the RNA of a 176-mer section of the HIV virus and studying the kinetics of the reaction between Cisplatin and Metallothionein

Department Service: Erin has been the SMAACS secretary and been a participant in the annual Hypatia Day events.

Erin was a volunteer at Saint Joseph Medical Center and Memorial Hospital and worked at the Health and Wellness Center on campus. She was also a member of the Italian Club (having spent a semester in Rome) and served as an orientation counselor. She served as senior class secretary.

Erin graduates Summa cum Laude and is also a member of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.


Erin Reichart

Major: Chemistry

Minors: Mathematics

After Saint Mary's: Engineering Degree at Notre Dame followed by graduate school in chemistry, chemical engnieering or business administration.

Department Service: Erin is a member of SMAACS.

Research: University of Notre Dame

:Erin conducted research on the MIM project with Dr. Toni Barstis and Dr. Dennis Jacobs at the Univeristy of Notre Dame.

Erin graduates Magna cum Laude. She also won the Mother M. Rose Elizabeth Award in Chemistry.

 

Rachel Reuther

Major: Chemistry with a Biochemical Concentration

Minor: Biology

After Saint Mary's: Graduate School Washington University in Biochemistry.

Department Service: Teaching Assistant for Chemistry 221, Prep TA for Biochemistry, and Stockroom Assistant

Research: Rachel was selected to attend the 2001 American Chemical Society Summer School in Nuclear and Radio Chemistry. She attended the University of Missouri-Columbia summer research program in radiochemistry in the summer of 2002.

Rachel was a member of the Collegiate Choir. She was also the winner of the F. Lee Benton Research Award.

Rachel graduates Magna cum Laude. She also won the American Institute of Chemists award.
