News '97 Amy L. Brabeck Ignacio and I are doing well and can hardly believe we've been married for eight months already! We enjoyed a short, weekend trip to San Fernando, Spain, in September to attend his sister, Pilar's, wedding. It was wonderful to be there, though it was a whirlwind trip. We are hoping to return to Spain and France this summer. While home in
Illinois over the holidays, I was happy to see April
Sass and
Michele Kuhlmann Nelson. April continues to love teaching and her
class–22 students
in all. Michele, I enjoyed hearing
from Sameena Hussain Wafa in early December. She writes: "I
had the joy of being matron of honor at Nicole Hannon's wedding in April
to Russ Roberson. She made a beautiful bride and was married at
the most perfect of places...our very own Church of Loretto! It
was great to be back on campus and to relive old memories. Also
part of the wedding party was Gayla Spenney. As for myself, I'm
living in Chicago and am in the last year of my pediatrics residency
at Loyola. My husband is also finishing up his anesthesiology residency
at Northwestern. We plan to move out to the San Francisco Bay area
with our little one, Zain, who was born in August 2003. I would
love to hear from anyone in the area!" She spent the first eight months in Durham. Since December, she has been working in Leeds, enjoying her life and travels in central England. Just before the holidays, Alex Norris Pfeifer wrote that her husband, Mark Pfeifer ND '98, had just completed his Ph.D. and was accepted for a post-doctorate position at U.C. Berkeley. They are enjoying life in California, as is their son, Patrick, who has adapted well to the new surroundings. Kimberly
Fleming Christenson e-mailed to share the news of her "third
bundle of boy."
Michelle Lomonaco Slabiak sent the following update: "My husband, Josh, and I just had our second son on Dec. 3: Aiden Joshua. After working in the accounting field since graduation and taking a year off after the birth of our first son, I have returned to work. This time I am an adjunct faculty member for Strayer University Online, teaching college accounting courses. I absolutely love it, and the position allows me to work from home and to be a full-time mom as well." Ann Spiess
