Program of Study

Co-sponsored by the Department of Business Administration and Economics and the Justice Education Program at Saint Mary's College, the course, BUAD 249 Survey of American Business and JUST 300: Mexico City Program, offers students a one-week experiential learning opportunity that centers on the Mexican business climate. Through a variety of activities before, during, and after the trip, students will broaden their understanding of diverse business protocols and key industries in Mexico, and will engage in networking opportunities in that country that aim to broaden their potential for business and organization leadership careers. This one-credit hour course aims to help students connect the business culture in Mexico City with the social and economic conditions that are currently operating in that country. Students will have the opportunity to learn about Mexico's modern economic history, its mix of cultures and the going business perceptions regarding international economic activity. Students are expected to read passages on recent social and economic transformations in Mexico and will be familiar with trends and business figures concerning today's business in Mexico. Through talks and interviews with key decision makers in the academic, business, and government agency spheres, students will also acknowledge the challenges that immigration and human rights issues pose on economic activity and business perceptions in that country. Site visits may include multinational corporations headquartered in Mexico, government agencies that promote competitive exchange, non-profit agencies, and academic centers.

Transportation, Costs, and Financial Aid

The approximate fee for the trip is $1,400 and covers round-trip airfare, ground transportation for sponsored visits, hotel accommodations, insurance, entrance charge to cultural and artistic venues, and one meal per day. Expense estimates are based upon existing air and hotel rates. In the event of significant changes in the price structure, Saint Mary's College, the Department of Business Administration and Economics, and the Justice Education Program reserve the right to make changes to the cost of the trip and/or the itinerary. Tuition cost is not included.
