Teaching duties have included Human Anatomy, Comparative Vertebrate Morphology, and Electron Microscopy. Guided 2-7 students per year in research projects required for graduation. As Chairman, oversaw administration of a Department consisting of eight full-time faculty members and three full-time teaching staff members. Also was responsible for determining course offerings, registration, and counseling of students majoring in the Department (20-30 graduates per year).

RESEARCH / PERSONAL INTERESTS

Dr. Sever is interested in Herpetology in general. In particular, Dr. Sever is well-known for over thirty years of work on the secondary sexual characters of salamanders, including the anatomy, function, and evolution of their skin glands and cloacal glands. Other studies done by Dr. Sever have involved ecology and behaviour, and he also discovered and named the species Eurycea junaluska, a salamander restricted to the southern Appalachian Mountains. Hobbies include golf, travel, photography, SCUBA, and fine wines and whiskies.
