Information Technology Enhanced Classrooms and Multimedia
Carts
Spring Semester 2005
Classroom Types and Locations:
Collaboratory Classrooms (4): Classrooms meeting this standard must
be projection ready and contain computer workstations around the
periphery
of the room with room for one or two students to interact at each
computer. There should be tables in the center for students to
keep the majority
of their books and supplies so they can work in small groups or attend
to a lecture from the teacher at a teacher's station attached to
the projector and also, through the network, to each of the student
workstations.
Such a classroom should contain a networked laser printer. All workstations
in a collaboratory will use the same platform. The front of the room
is equipped with an instructor's lectern, containing one or two computers,
control rack containing commercial VCR, audio amplifier, and controls.
The two largest Collaboratories are equipped with wireless microphones
and sound system to amplify the instructor's voice.
Locations of Collaboratory Classrooms:
Madeleva 351 (25 student PCs, 1 instructor PC) - seating for 40 students
Library Media Center (20 student PCs, 1 Instructor PC) - seating
for 30
Regina 145 (30 student Macs, 1 Instructor Mac) - seating for 30
Moreau 324 (12 student Macs, 1 Instructor Mac) - seating for 18 students
Advanced Technology Classrooms (11):
Classrooms meeting this standard
must be projection ready with one or two pull down screens and have
a lectern containing a computer monitor, and one or two computers depending
on the needs. A wall mounted control rack included a VCR, (optional
videodisk player / DVD player and/or sufficient auxiliary plugs to
attach these devices when needed), interfaces to the projector, and
a control system to allow instructor or student to control all devices.
A feed from campus TV or satellite dish can be added later as needed.
Locations of Advanced Technology Classrooms:
Madeleva 249 (1 PC) - seating for 20 students
Madeleva 349 (1 Mac, 1 PC) - seating for 40 students
Madeleva 233 (1 PC) - seating for 45 students
Madeleva 356
(7 PC) - seating for 30 students
Science 105 (1 PC) - fixed auditorium seating
Science 132 (1 PC, 1 Mac) - 25 seats
Science 286 (1 PC) - same seating as in the past
Havican 18 (1 PC) - 35 student seats
Havican 13A (1 PC) - 33 student seats
Moreau 232 (1 Mac) - 45 student seats
Moreau 114 (1 Mac) - 45 aprox. seats
Moreau 228 (1 Mac) - same seating as in the past
Regina 152 (1 Mac) - approx. 45 tiered seats, Audio Amplifier equipped with
Dolby Sensurround Sound, six room speakers, and larger projection screen provide
for excellent viewing of video, and a local satellite dish provides satellite
downlink capability on a limited basis.
Small
Group Computer Classroom:
(1) Classrooms meeting this standard
must be projection ready and contain at least six 5 ft. diameter circular
tables with 4-5 power ..receptacles and network connections in the center
of each table so that student portable computers can be utilized while
students are working in groups of 3-5. There must be at least a 4.5 ft.
buffer around each table to make room for chairs and allow the teacher.to easily circulate around the room. Such a classroom should contain
a networked laser printer. It also contains an instructor's lectern and
the same video / computer projection equipment as is found in the Advanced technology Classrooms described above.
Locations of Small Group Computer Classrooms (1):
Madeleva 356 (6 student PCs, 1 instructor PC) - seating for 30 students
The Registrar's Office normally schedules these rooms for all faculty with a
frequent need for these meadia-enhanced or computer-enhanced facilities.
These technology-enhanced classrom facilities are supported and operated
by the Information Technology's Media Services department.
Instructors needing advanced technology classrooms or labratories on an occasional basis can schedule arrangements through Special Events (ext 4265)
Classroom Reservation Procedure and Policy:
Faculty needing video, computer or projection services should contact
Special Events staff to discuss their needs. Once you
are familiar with the facilities, consider use of the online request form,
but since
at the present time we are not using an automated system, all such
requests should be considerd "pending" until the staff has
verified the availability and sends you a confirmation by email. Rooms
cannot be requested more than two weeks in advance or prior to the
beginning of the semester. Call 284-4625 to place your request for
an Advanced Technology classroom on a particular date.
Please
be sure to review the following chart for additional clarification
regarding equipment and seating capacity in classrooms. For more detailed
description of equipment available in each classroom, or special media
equipment, click on the specific classroom location. The numbers in parentheses
refer to explanatory notes in the Equipment
Descriptions section below.
In classrooms where data projection is needed from portable computers,
special long cables may be needed to connect to the auxiliary data input
on the control cabinet, so that both the laptop LCD and projector display
the image simultaneously. Sending video out through the external VGA
port as well to the laptop's monitor sometimes requires knowing the proper
keystrokes. For example, for a Gateway laptop it's Function F1. Please
refer to the Keyboard Commands for Laptop Computers list for help.
