The GyroPoint mouse is battery operated and should be turned off when not in use. The small green LED on top of the mouse is on steady when the mouse is on.

To Turn GyroPoint Mouse On: Press the ON button (top and center) continuously for four or five seconds. The LED on the mouse should glow steady green. If it cintinues blinking, battery power is low. ( Immediately notify the Classroom Support Coordinator at #5277 that you need two replacement AA batteries).

To Turn GyroPoint Power Off: While holding down the POWER ON button on top, click the green Activate button underneath, and release both buttons. The green LED should go off. There is a 30 min. timeout feature if the mouse is inactive for this period, but turning off the mouse when finished will save on battery power.

Activate Button: (two modes)

  1. Hold down the Activate button (underneath the mouse) while you move the device and select items on the screen. In this mode releasing the Activate button will park the cursor in a still position on the screen. This allows hand movement without the distractions of a constantly moving screen cursor.
  2. Double click the Activate button quickly to keep the cursor active without having to hold down the Activate button. In this mode, the cursor is parked by a single click of the Activate button.

To Steady the Mouse:

If the cursor doesn’t seem to be tracking your hand movements…the gyros can be calibrated by simply holding the mouse motionless for a few seconds or putting it down on a steady surface for four seconds.

About the GyroPoint Mouse: The GyroPoint wireless mouse is installed in the advanced technology classrooms. This device permits instructors to control presentations without being restricted to the instructor’s lectern. It operates by means of two solid-state gyroscopes that measure wrist movement, transmitting this movement using radio frequency unique to each device that operates up to 75 feet from the computer. (Note: In Madeleva 349 the lectern houses two computers so one GyroPoint mouse is dedicated to the PC and one to the Macintosh.) You can always pick up and use the standard mouse, as all lecterns are equipped with both type of mouse and both are active simultaneously.

Since this device operates by radio frequency, it does NOT need to be pointed at a specific target. It works well if you stand back from the screen, pointing it generally in the direction of the screen to operate, flexing your wrist the way you would move a flashlight beam, rather than moving the entire arm.
