Library
Express
The
Library Express document delivery service is
a companion
to our
current
Interlibrary Loan request
service, and will save hours of valuable time by bringing
our
library to your office!
With Library
Express , you can now have articles from
journals in our library scanned
for you and delivered electronically to your desktop free
of charge!
If we don't own the journal, we'll request it through our regular Interlibrary
Loan request service.
Who can use this service?
All members of Saint Mary's College student, faculty,
staff and administration may use Library
Express for
their research and educational needs.
What Library
Express provides:
- Scanned
images (PDF) of print journal articles, book
chapters, and small portions of other copyrighted print
works from materials the library owns.
- Electronic
article delivery only -- no paper copies.
- Fast
turn around (3 business days or less if the article
is on campus; 1 - 2 weeks if it is not). [Note:
Library Express is not available during times the Library
is closed i.e. holidays]
How
it works:
- You
fill out the web form with
your citation information and forward your request
to us. (If the citation cannot be verified, the requestor
will be notified via email)
- If
the library owns the cited journal, we find
the article, scan it to create a PDF file, email
the file to you or you can access the PDF
file directly with the Library
Express PDF Access number that we will assign your
article.
- If
the material is not in our library,
we will attempt to obtain it via Interlibrary
Loan. It is important to realize that ILL requests
can take from one to three weeks to obtain.
- You
can view or print the article at your convenience.
Other
types of requests and exceptions:
- If
the material you request is in our collection but temporarily
unavailable, for example at the bindery, you will be
advised of the expected date of delivery to you.
- If
the item you request is available full-text online,
you will be referred to the appropriate index for printing
or reading at your convenience.
- You
can request no more than three articles per any one
issue of a journal.
- If
the material is not in our library, we will attempt
to obtain it via Interlibrary
Loan. It is important
to realize that ILL requests can take from one to three
weeks to obtain.
- If
the article is available at Notre Dame (but
not at Saint Mary's) AND it is less than five years old, we
must ask you to access it on their campus.
Software
you will need:
You
will need Adobe Acrobat reader version 5.0 or higher
to view the documents you request. Acrobat
reader is a
free program and can be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html
