STYLE MANUALS

Style manuals are tools for authors, editors, and students and range from the generic to the discipline specific.  They are more than just a “how to” for citing sources, doing footnotes, and compiling a bibliography.  Style manuals serve as a writing guide for a particular discipline, as well as giving advice on research, grammar, punctuation, and the appearance of the final paper.

The MLA (Modern Language Association) Style Manual is recommended for the humanities, and the APA (American Psychological Association) Style Manual is recommended for the social sciences.  However, it is best to clarify with your instructor which style manual you should use.

The MLA and APA style manuals are “on reserve” and may be asked for at the circulation desk. The library also has the following style manuals located in the reference area:
The Chicago Manual of Style REF Z 253 C53 2003
ASA Style Guide REF HM73 A54 1997
CBE Style Manual REF QH 304 C84
A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations (Turabian) REF LB 2369 .T92 1996
