Exhibit April 2008 - June 15 2008
CWIL Fellow Shannon Rose Riley spoke about her photo exhibit, "Re-Imagining
Cuba" at the Library on Friday, April 4. |

Cuba
is not just a land of 1950s US cars, Santeria, Cuban
cigars,
and mojitos. Nor is it entirely "communist" or
underdeveloped in the ways US Americans often imagine.
This exhibit aims to challenge the predominant US views
of Cuba through a careful juxtaposition of images: what
we think we know and what, largely as a result of US foreign
policy and travel restrictions, we cannot, or refuse to,
see. This exhibit thus invites us to "re-imagine" Cuba
in the 21st Century. This
is the final of a trilogy of photo exhibits sponsored
by CWIL and developed by Jeremy Vaughan and Shannon Rose
Riley with the goal of introducing the SMC community
to intercultural differences through the use of photographic
images and lectures. . Previous exhibits have featured
the photographs of Wolfgang Schmidt and CWIL Fellow Fozia
Qazi.
