Conference Addresses Diversity on Campus, in Workplace

NOTRE DAME, Ind.—The Saint Mary’s College Student Diversity Board invites area high school and college students, as well as the general public, to the Diverse Student Leadership Conference. The conference runs Thursday, March 1 through Saturday, March 3. It is free of charge.

The event entails a series of workshops and presentations that aim to increase awareness of the benefits of diversity on campus, in the community, and in the workplace. The conference is structured so that attendees can become empowered leaders, actively promoting the advantages of diversity.

The keynote speech by Dr. Peggy McIntosh is at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 3 in Carroll Auditorium, Madeleva Hall. McIntosh is associate director of the Wellesley Centers for Women. She also directs the Gender, Race, and Inclusive Education Project, which provides workshops on privilege systems and diversifying workplaces, curricula, and teaching methods.

Other presentations and workshops include Women and the Military, Immigration and Diversity, Gender Relations, and a panel of first-generation college students from Saint Mary’s and Notre Dame.
