Contact: Melanie McDonald, director of public relations, 574-284-4579 Saint Mary’s College Trustees Vote for Minimal Tuition Increase NOTRE DAME, Ind.—The Saint Mary’s College Board of Trustees voted in favor of a five percent tuition and fees increase for 2006-2007. Room and board will increase by three percent, making the average cost to attend Saint Mary’s $34,005 for a resident student. Trustees met Feb. 23-24. The Numbers “This year, Saint Mary’s faced substantial increases in natural gas and employee benefits costs,” says Laurie Stickelmaier, vice president for finance and administration. “However, trustees believe that we need to pay for those increased expenses through various cost-saving measures. Putting an undue burden on students and their families is not an option here.” Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, Ind., is a four-year, Catholic, women’s institution offering five bachelor’s degrees and more than 30 major areas of study. “U.S. News & World Report” regularly ranks Saint Mary’s #1 in its category. Sponsored by the Sisters of the Holy Cross, the College was founded in 1844 and now enrolls approximately 1500 students.
