Longtime Chicago Resident Wins Distinguished Alumna Award

NOTRE DAME, Ind.—Catherine “C.C.” Shaughnessy Nessinger, a longtime
Chicago resident and former Hyde Park High School history teacher, won
her alma mater’s Distinguished Alumna Award. The award is presented
annually to a Saint Mary’s College alumna who “embodies the standards
and ideals of Saint Mary’s in all aspects of her life, and who has given
outstanding service to the College through her local alumnae club or the
alumnae association.”

Since her graduation from Saint Mary's in 1956, Nessinger has taken on
numerous leadership positions in the Chicago Alumnae Club, the Alumnae
Board and the Alumnae Association. She and her husband have also been
generous to the College by offering resources to enhance academic
programs and extend financial aid to a record number of students.
Nessinger is also an accomplished horsewoman and pilot, and volunteers
at the Scottsdale, Ariz., Mayo Clinic during the winter months.
