Cincinnati Woman Receives Posthumous Humanitas Award

NOTRE DAME, Ind.—Sheila Mary Braun Reynolds, a volunteer and nurse in
Cincinnati before her death last year, won her alma mater’s Humanitas
Award. The Humanitas Award is presented annually to a Saint Mary’s
College alumna who is “outstanding in her personal and volunteer
accomplishments, and who merits recognition for her concern and interest
in the welfare of her fellow human beings.” Reynolds’ husband John, who
still resides in Cincinnati, and their three sons were on-hand to accept
the award earlier this month.

Reynolds, who graduated from Saint Mary’s in 1981, was a certified
oncology nurse and radiation therapy educator at Cincinnati’s Good
Samaritan Hospital, where she also developed a healing music program. As
a volunteer, she founded the children’s liturgy program at Cincinnati’s
Guardian Angels Parish.

The Reynolds’ son Daniel, 22, graduated from the University of Notre
Dame in May. Their second son Andrew, 19, just completed his first year
at Notre Dame. Brian, 15, will be a high school sophomore this fall.
Sheila Reynolds passed away unexpectedly on March 7, 2005, from
ventricular arrhythmia resulting in sudden cardiac death.
