Saint Mary’s Professor Steps Into VP, Dean of Faculty Role

NOTRE DAME, Ind.— Jill Vihtelic, a longtime business professor at Saint Mary’s College, was named acting vice president and dean of faculty at the College. Vihtelic fills the vacancy left by Dr. Patrick White, who recently became president of Wabash College in Wabash, Ind.
Vihtelic began her career at Saint Mary’s in 1987 in the business administration and economics department. Since that time, she has contributed to Saint Mary’s in many capacities both in and out of the classroom. Vihtelic served three consecutive three-year terms as faculty representative on the board of trustees and was chair of the faculty assembly. She served two consecutive terms as chair of the business administration and economics department and won the Spes Unica Award for outstanding service to the College.
“Jill has been a valued, trusted, and indispensable member of the campus community for years,” says Dr. Carol Ann Mooney, president of Saint Mary’s College. “Her decisions are thoughtful and based on her deep love for the College and extensive knowledge of it.”
Vihtelic earned her bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s in finance from Michigan State University. She has longstanding affiliations with numerous professional organizations, including the Academy of Financial Services, the Midwest Business Administrative Association and the Financial Management Association.
In her role as vice president and dean of faculty, Vihtelic is responsible for leading the faculty in continuing professional development, leading the continual review and improvement of academic programs, and serving as the chief executive officer of the College in the absence of the president, among other duties.###
