For Immediate Release: August 31, 2007 Moreau Art Galleries Opens First Exhibition of the Season NOTRE DAME, Ind. --The Saint Mary's College Moreau Art Galleries (MAG) presents "Moving Through Medium," an experiment in time-based media by six emerging artists, on display now through September 22. Visiting Gallery Director Annie Heckman curates the show. The public is invited to an opening reception on Thursday, Sept. 6 from 4-6 p.m. at MAG, located inside the Moreau Center for the Arts on campus. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment. The artists--from Chicago, Duluth, San Francisco and Brooklyn--produced animations specifically for this project, working with stop-motion, computer cutout motion, and flash-drawn techniques. Their works in 2-d and 3-d media, including sculptural installation, painting, and printmaking, set the stage for their new projects. Each artist in this group approaches images through a re-working of observed experience. This show is both a translation of flat and sculptural media into time-based projects, and an exploration of the fervor of new beginnings in artistic practice. Named in honor of the Very Reverend Basil Anthony Moreau, CSC, the founder of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, the Moreau Center for the Arts consists of O'Laughlin Auditorium, Little Theatre, Moreau Art Galleries, studios, workshops and classrooms.
