For Immediate Release Saint Mary's Offers Accounting Seminar for Professionals NOTRE DAME, Ind.-The Saint Mary's College Department of Business Administration and Economics offers a continuing professional education (CPE) seminar for accounting and tax professionals on Tuesday, Dec. 6 in the new Student Center on campus. Saint Marys accounting professors Claude Renshaw, MBA, CPA, and Mary Ann Merryman, MSA, CPA, lead the sessions, which focus on newly enacted legislation and regulations. Professionals are invited to register for the full day (eight hours of CPE credit), but may sign up for either the morning or afternoon sessions individually (each worth four hours of CPE credit). Professor Renshaw presents the morning session on federal tax law. Highlights include the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004 and the Energy Policy Act of 2005, as well as recent legislation, rates and rules that become effective in 2005 due to previously enacted tax laws. Main topics include new rules on deducting sales tax, guidelines for donating cars to charity, the manufacturers deduction and an update on MACRS calculations. Professor Merryman leads the afternoon session on recent changes in the regulation of the accounting and auditing profession. This features a detailed review of the activities of the following standard-setting bodies: Financial Accounting Standards Board, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. Primary topics include the final pronouncements issued in 2005 as well as an overview of current agenda items. The seminar runs from 8:30 a.m. until noon, and 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. The fee is $250 for a full day or $125 for each individual session. Register for the full day by November 18 and receive a $25 discount. The price includes a continental breakfast and lunch, and snacks and beverages will be available throughout the day.
