Minors Offered by the Department of Mathematics
The
Department offers several minor programs for students majoring in other
fields who have an interest in further study in mathematics or computer
science. When the minor is completed, the student may have it recorded
in her permanent record and made a part of her official transcript.
The
minors offered in this department are intended to be broad and flexible
so that a student can combine courses in mathematics or computer science
which support and complement her other academic interests. Any student
whose mathematical requirements and interests are not met in the courses
scheduled may make substitutions if the mathematics department chair
approves her program.
Minors
are offered in
Mathematics minor:
A
minor in mathematics requires at least five mathematics courses numbered
104 or above [Math 104 is acceptable only if the student takes it before
taking a higher-numbered course]. Computer Science 207 may be counted
as one of the five courses.
The
courses must include
1. A calculus course (105, 115, 131 or 133)
2. At least two courses from the following list:

- Cpsc 307 Assembly Language (Offered Spring, even years)
- at least two course from the following list
- Cpsc 315 Simulation (Offered Spring, even years)
- Cpsc 328 Data Structures(Offered Fall)
- Cpsc 417 Systems Analysis
- Any other Cpsc course numbered above 207

Requirements: Five courses in Computer Science, including
the following:
- Cpsc 103* Introduction to Computers(Offered every semester)
- Cpsc 207 Computer Programming (Offered every semester)
- Cpsc 217 COBOL Programming in Business Systems (Offered Spring)
- At least one course from the following list
- Cpsc 417 Systems Analysis (Offered Fall, even years)
- Cpsc 429 Data Base systems(Offered Fall, odd years)
- One more Cpsc course from the following list:
- Cpsc 315 Simulation (Offered Spring, even years)
- Cpsc 328 Data Structures(Offered Fall)
- Cpsc 417 Systems Analysis(Offered Fall, even years)
- Cpsc 429 Data Base systems(Offered Fall, odd years)
*Students who are prepared my substitute any 300 or 400 level Cpsc
course for Cpsc 103

Mathematics/Computer Science Minor:
Requirements: Seven courses in Mathematics and Computer Science.
The following must be included:
- Math 105, 131 or 133 Calculus
- Two mathematics courses from the list under "Mathematics minor"
- Cpsc 207, Cpsc 217 or 307, and Cpsc 328
- Any other Cpsc course numbered above 207 or Math course numbered
above 104 [but Math 104 is acceptable only if taken before any higher-numbered
math course]

Requirements: Eight courses in Computer Science and Economics.
The following must be included:
- Cpsc 207 and Cpsc 217
- Cpsc 417 or 429
- Econ 251, Econ 252, Econ 351, and Econ 352
- One additional 300/400 level Econ or Cpsc course
