Teaching positions are offered in three schools (all Catholic) serving African-American, Mexican, and other diverse populations.

Christo Rey Jesuit High School (Chicago, Illinois): A co-educational prep school serving Mexican immigrants in the Pilsen/Little Village Neighborhood. The Society of Jesus opened Christo Rey in 1996 as an alternative to the public schools in the area, where drop out rates were high. Between the innovative dual-language curriculum and the school’s highly acclaimed Corporate Internship Program (CIP), the school has found a way to make a Jesuit education a reality for low income families.

Franciscan Volunteer Program (Chicago and St. Louis): The FVP has a number of possible sites for teachers. For example, the Maternity B.V.M. parish school seeks teachers for grades 1-8 and serves the inner city Hispanic population. Hales Franciscan High School, founded in 1962, is nationally recognized for providing a quality college prep education to inner city African American boys. And Marion Middle School (St. Louis) serves girls in grades 5-8 who are working to overcome a variety of academic problems.

Haitian Project Incorporated (At Louverture Cleary): The role played by foreign volunteers at Louverture Cleary is broad and affects many areas of community life. Their primary responsibilities are in the classroom, where they cover many classes ranging from language and religion to laboratory science and computers. The volunteers live at the school, giving them the opportunity to spend an incredible amount of time with the students. They can teach sport classes to the youngest grades as well as run extra-curricular activities such as dance, photography, school newspaper, etc. We especially work for the empowerment of our female students through the “Celebrate Women” program and female volunteers provide a valuable service as role models and as empowerment agents.
