Saint Mary's and Rebuilding Together 2006

The 2006 Rebuilding Together Project had Saint Mary's students, faculty and staff working on 3 different homes. One of those homes was the one the college sponsored:

This home, at 801 South Illinois Street, is owned by Lorraine Vielinski. Lorraine is the mom of June Rhodes, who works for SMC in Building Services. While we worked on the house June and the rest of the family helped out as well. Lorraine is on oxygen and was not able to complete any of the work on her own home -- hence how she was chosen for Rebuilding Together!

The house received a new roof, new glazing on windows, a new picture window, a new bathroom floor and vanity and toliet, new doors, fresh paint in almost every room, 20+ perennials added to the garden, and 100 pansies!

Saint Mary's students worked on other homes in the area as well, doing yard work and painting.

Trucks from the city's municipal fleet came by to haul trash away.

At the end of the day, the results were pretty remarkable. You can get a sense of it by these two photos of Lorraine's bathroom before and after!

And after the new floor, etc.....

Thanks to everyone who helped with this great event!!
