This course will examine the economic, political, and cultural challenges facing nations in Africa, Latin America, and Asia. Several broad thematic issues will be considered: the politics of gender, democratization, economic development strategies, international factors, ethnicity and nationalism, and the political significance of religion. The course will examine the impact of international organizations such as the World Bank as well as non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
