This course aims to build an understanding of Russian and Eurasian politics by investigating the rise and decline of the Soviet empire and the challenges facing Russia and the new states of Eurasia. Three thematic issues are covered: democratization, market reform, and nation building. Requirements include four short essays and mid-term and final exams.
