Pi Sigma Alpha is the national political science honor society.
Established in 1920, its chapters are established in colleges
and universities of accredited and recognized standing which offer
at least the prescribed minimum of work in political science.
Student membership in Pi Sigma Alpha is based entirely on scholastic
achievement in political science. Its total membership is approximately
75,000.
Saint Mary's College students majoring in political science
are encouraged to apply for membership in Pi Sigma Alpha if they
fulfill the following academic criteria. They must have completed
at least ten semester hours of course work in political science,
have completed at least one 300- or 400-level political science
course, and have maintained a B+ (3.33) average in their political
science courses. They must also rank in the upper third of their
class for overall GPA. Consequently, students in the class of
2001 must have an overall GPA of 3.377 or higher. Students of
2002 must have an overall GPA of 3.315 or higher. They must then
submit and orally present a revised paper written for a political
science course. This paper must have received at least a B+ and
be a minimum of ten pages. There is an initiation fee of $35.
Political science majors who wish to apply for membership and
can fulfill the above criteria are required to complete the form
below, detach it along the line, and submit it to Professor Sean
Savage.
