Saint Mary's College and the University
of Notre Dame maintain a cooperative program permitting students
to take courses at the neighboring institution. In addition to
attending classes the two institutions share many activities
in the area of academics as well as social events, choral groups
and music ensembles, student organizations (including a daily
newspaper and the Notre Dame marching band) and community service
projects. Students from each institution are also eligible to
participate in the other's foreign study programs.
The following guidelines will apply
for all Saint Mary's students participating in the co-exchange
program.
- All courses
are eligible in the co-exchange program.
- All General Education requirements (except
Religious Studies & Theology) must be completed on the SMC
campus.
- SMC students who register for courses at
Notre Dame are governed by the drop and withdrawal deadline dates
at Saint Mary's.
- Saint Mary's forms should be used to drop or withdraw from a course.
- Department major requirements must be fulfilled
at SMC. However, Notre Dame courses may be chosen from any discipline,
including the student's major field. In the latter case, it is understood
that the course will count as an elective
- Saint Mary's students who take a Notre Dame
course comparable to one on the SMC campus for which a fee is
assigned will be charged that fee. Examples: language, science,
and art.
- No charge will be assessed for musical organizations
such as marching band, concert band, orchestra, glee clubs and madrigal
singers.
- Only full-time students are eligible for
participation in this program.
- Students may elect one Notre Dame course
per semester. Seniors may elect two Notre Dame courses per semester.
- The student's advisor must approve any Notre
Dame course.
