About the Student Designed Major

The Student Designed Major (SDM) was approved in 1993 to provide a structure which would allow superior students in the liberal arts and the sciences, with advising, to design an independent, interdisciplinary course of study outside the traditional departmental structure at Saint Mary's College. This program recognizes both the independence of student learning, the interconnectedness of knowledge, and the changing nature of traditional disciplines. It encourages journeys across the curriculum.
