SMAACS is the Saint Mary's Affiliation of the American Chemical Society. The purpose of our club is to support the department via educational activities. These activities include organizing panel discussions, hosting speakers, and helping students prepare for graduate school or create resumes. We have a successful tutoring program that can be accessed online as well as an office located in the Science Hall for any questions a student might have about the department or the major. We also provide students with social, service, and career development opportunities such as with daily events and speakers during National Chemistry Week. These actvities include luncheon seminars, faculty and student appreciation days, tye-dying lab coats, and decorating the science hall. The most successful service project we participate in is Hypatia Day in which student affiliates organize and perform chemical experiments with young women in seventh and eighth grade. This event helps women to become and stay interested in science. We implement the mission of Saint Mary's College by encouraging women to pursue the sciences and educate the general public about chemistry. ____________________________________________________________
