Y. Bekavac
“Models
of Leadership and the Liberal Arts”
Nancy
Y. Bekavac became the sixth president of Scripps College
in Claremont, Calif., on July 1, 1990. She holds the
W.M. Keck Foundation Presidential Chair, which was
established in 1980. Bekavac is also a part-time instructor
at Claremont McKenna College.
A 1969 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Swarthmore College
and a 1973 graduate of Yale Law School, Bekavac was
a counselor to the president of Dartmouth College
before assuming the presidency of Scripps College.
Besides holding a number of teaching positions, she
was a partner at the law firm of Munger, Tolles and
Olson in Los Angeles.
Bekavac, who holds numerous board member positions,
was the 1984 recipient of the Human Rights Award of
the Los Angeles Commission on Civil Rights. She is
the author of “Imagining the Real Future,”
which appeared in A Voice of Our Own, a collection
of original essays written by prominent American women.
She has also contributed op-ed articles for The New
York Times and The Los Angeles Times.
