January 10, 2005: Late-night Breakfast

In a show of solidarity with the victims of the tsunami disaster, students decided to substitute a typical refugee camp meal––wheat tortillas, rice and lentils, and apples––in place of the usual hot food and prizes at their late-night breakfast. The serving time, 10 p.m., coincided with the time tsunami refugees would be eating their meager breakfast. The difference in the cost of the original meal and the chosen meal––$760––was donated to OxFam International for the tsunami relief effort.

Faculty and staff interact with students about ways to help the tsunami victims.

January 11, 2005:
Social Issues Forum: “Then and Now: Same Issues, Different Women”
Before the discussion, students reflect on Dr. Mooney’s era by walking through a yearbook with Jo Ann MacKenzie ’69, director of planned giving in the development office.
Among several small-group leaders, Pat Pierce, professor of political science and associate dean of faculty, led a discussion on political activism.

January 12
Forum: “History of the Proposed 1972 ND/SMC Merger”
Donald E. Miller, professor of mathematics, shared his memories of a merger that never happened.
The forum topic attracted many students to listen to a variety of voices about a part of Saint Mary’s history that happened before they were born.

January 16, 2005:
Dance: “Then and Now”
Before hitting the Angela Athletic Facility dance floor, students warmed up with some treats.
Dr. Mooney and Linda Timm, vice president for student affairs, pose with student body president Sarah Catherine White’05, dressed as a Mooney look-alike from the ’70s.
Vice President for Student Affairs Linda Timm (far right) and Dr. Mooney (in pink t-shirt) join in some moves to ’70s tunes.

• Students did not hold events Jan. 14 or 15, due to symposium and Inauguration day activities.
