Student Employment Opportunities

In Summer 1998, Saint Mary's College completed a multi-million dollar initiative to connect each hall to the campus computer network. In its entirety, the ResNet (residential networking) project brought many new resources to the residence halls. Today, these resources have developed to include the following services:

  • New electrical circuits specifically for computer equipment
  • A fast-ethernet connection (100Mbs) for every student
    (or "one port per pillow")
    in each on-campus residence room.
  • NEW BelleAire campus wireless network
    (supporting both 802.11b & 802.11g standards)
  • Digital cable TV service to each residence hall room
  • ResNet support services through the Student Computing group of Information Technology
The driving force behind ResNet is the recognition that computers and the Internet have become an increasingly important part of college life, in its academic as well as social aspects. Through ResNet, students who bring network-ready personal computers to campus can connect to the campus network and the World Wide Web.

Many information services are now accessible on the network, and more are added every day. Students who connect to the network have convenient access to services such as electronic mail, the World Wide Web, online instruction materials, College calendars, and the online Library catalog. In addition, students can also access a personal network directory for storing term papers and other important files.

Please explore the ResNet website to learn more about hardware requirements, software configurations, College policies, and so on.

There are three basic rules for the computer clusters at Saint Mary's College:
(Please obey the posted signs in the clusters for additional cluster-specific policies.)

  1. No food or beverages are allowed near the computers.
  2. All labs are considered "quiet zones."
  3. No printing multiple copies of any document.Having a computer problem and there isn't a cluster consultant on duty?
  4. Fill out a Cluster Problem Report Form at http://fixit.saintmarys.edu.
  5. Cluster Consultants and Information Technology staff will receive your form and help you out.
