Welcome to BelleAire at Saint Mary's College!
To configure your Mac to use DHCP on wireless:
Please confirm which version of Mac OS X your computer has installed before continuing.
There will be some minor differences in these connection instructions based on which version
of Mac OS X you have installed. To confirm your version of Mac OS
X, go to the Apple menu in the upper left corner and select "About this Mac."
For Mac OS X version 10.5:
- In the dock (at the bottom of your Mac desktop), click on the System Preferences icon.
(It looks like a rectangle with gears in it.) If you do not see this item listed in the dock,
you can also select System Preferences... from the Apple Menu.
- Click on the Network icon.
- Airport should appear highlighted. If it does not, click on it once to highlight it.
- In the pop-up list next to Configure: select Using DHCP. If you cannot complete this step, you need to connect your Mac to the network using an Ethernet cable and the network jack in your residence hall room. Please do this before continuing with these instructions.
- The field next to DNS Server: must remain blank. The server will automatically send the correct information to your computer (and may appear light gray, as illustrated below).
- Click Apply at the bottom of the window and close the System Preferences window.
For Mac OS X versions 10.3 and 10.4:
- In the dock (at the bottom of your Mac desktop), click on the System Preferences
icon. (It looks like a light switch with an Apple on it.) If you do not see this item listed
in the dock, you can also select System Preferences... from the Apple Menu.
- Click on the Network icon.
- Airport should appear highlighted. If it does not, click on it once to highlight it.
- Click the Configure... button.
- Make sure the TCP/IP button is selected.
- In the pop-up list next to Show: make sure that Airport is selected.
If it is not already selected, select it.
- In the pop-up list next to Configure IPv4: select Using DHCP.
- The field next to DNS Server: must remain blank. The server will automatically send the correct information to your computer.
- Click on Apply Now at the bottom of the window and close the System Preferences window.
For Mac OS X version 10.2:
- In the dock (at the bottom of your Mac desktop), click on the System Preferences
icon. (It looks like a light switch with an Apple on it.) If you do not see this item listed
in the dock, you can also select System Preferences... from the Apple Menu.
- Click on the Network icon.
- Make sure the TCP/IP tab is selected.
- In the pop-up list next to Show: select Airport.
- In the pop-up list next to Configure: select Using DHCP.
- The field next to DNS Server: must remain blank. The server will automatically send the correct information to your computer.
- Click on Apply Now at the bottom of the window and close the System Preferences window.
