You can set up an away/vacation message for your Saint Mary's e-mail account with the Zimbra webmail client (http://webmail.saintmarys.edu). You will need to set up this away/vacation message with the Zimbra webmail client even if you use another application to check your e-mail (Apple's Mail, Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird).

    1. Visit http://webmail.saintmarys.edu and log in.
    2. There will be several tabs at the top of the page. Click on the Preferences tab to edit your e-mail options.
    3. In the left column that lists all of the preferences choices, click on Mail.
    4. Scroll down to the Receiving Messages section.
    5. To turn on the vacation message reply, click the box labeled "Send auto-reply message" so the box is checked.
      • To turn off the vacation reply message, click the box labeled "Send auto-reply message" so the box is unchecked.

    6. In the Send auto-reply message: box, type the vacation message you would like people to receive. This message will be sent to anyone who sends you a e-mail message while the away message is enabled on your account. Your away message is sent to each recipient only once, regardless of how many messages that person sends you during the time your away message is enabled.
      • You should include basic information stating that you are not checking your e-mail or infrequently checking your e-mail, and include the date that you will be returning and checking your e-mail on a regular basis. You may choose to provide current contact information or identify a person to contact while you are away, as well.

    7. Set the Start On and End On dates during which you want the auto-reply to be sent.
      • If you return earlier than expected, you can log into the Zimbra webmail client and uncheck the box to disable the automatic message reply.

    8. Click on Save at the top of the page. The away message feature is enabled immediately.
