Hello Milwaukee Saint Mary's Alumnae!

Hard to believe that it is already October!  I hope that this message finds you well and enjoying the Fall!

We have a few exciting opportunities coming up in the Milwaukee Club and would like to let you know about ways that you can get involved with other Saint Mary's graduates in the area.

Thank you to everyone who came out to welcome Dr. Carol Ann Mooney to
celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Saint Mary's College Milwaukee Club!
Dr. Mooney was joined by her husband, George Efta, along with Kara O'Leary,
Director of Alumnae Relations and Shari Rodriguez, Vice President of College
Relations.  Dr. Mooney shared updates from campus, including information
about the new academic building, Spes Unica Hall.

SERVICE PROJECT
As a service project, the Milwaukee Club will be sponsoring a troop from Milwaukee that is currently serving our country overseas in Iraq. The troop that we are sponsoring has many basic needs and supplies are not available close to where they are stationed, or they sell out quickly from the US run supply stores near where they are located. Items such as baby wipes, deodorant, Q tips, razors, playing cards, magazines, snack foods (sunflower seeds and beef jerky are favorites), individual drink mixes are needed and would be greatly appreciated by the troops. In addition to supplies, letters from the states and pictures from kids help to boost the morale of the troops. If you would like to help donate supplies for the troops, please contact Missy Lind '98 mal515@sbcglobal.net). If you would rather us shop for supplies and would like to contribute financially (checks payable to the SMC Milwaukee Club) or have a letter/picture to send to the troops, please mail them to Missy Lind, 157 Linden Lane, Unit 4, Thiensville, WI 53092.

THINGS TO WATCH FOR IN 2009:

We are looking to put together a networking event after the 1st of the year that will bring together Saint Mary's women of all ages at a venue in downtown Milwaukee. If you have any suggestions for places to go, or would like to help coordinate, please contact us: smcmkeclub@gmail.com.

In the spring we will be getting our families together and heading to the zoo to enjoy some time with your fellow Saint Mary's alumnae. Watch for details to come in late March regarding this event.

BOOK CLUB
Several alumnae have expressed interest in getting a book club together.  The book club did meet once in the Spring of the year and then postponed future meetings until after the summer.

If you are interested in becoming a part of the book club, please send us an e-mail with the days of the week that work best for you along with what start time would be best for you.  Also, if you have any books that you think we should read, please feel free to share your recommendations.  We will create a sub mailing list for those who are interested in being a part of the book club.

HOLIDAY SERVICE PROJECT
If anyone is interested in being part of a Toy Drive for area children this Christmas Season, please let us know via e-mail.  We would be happy to coordinate it if we have interested alumnae.

THANK YOU to everyone who helped put together finals care packages for the eight Saint Mary’s students from the Milwaukee area. We were able to put together a big box of goodies for each one of them!

SPRING TRIP TO THE ZOO
Thanks to all who were able to join us on Sunday, June 10th at the Milwaukee County Zoo! Look for this to be an annual Saint Mary’s Gathering. We had a beautiful day and it was nice to catch up with fellow SMC alumnae and their families.

BOOK CLUB
We had our first book club meeting on April 25th where we discussed Adriana Trigiani’s book Home to Big Stone Gap. Anyone interested in joining us for the next book club, please e-mail SMCMKECLUB@gmail.com and we will be sure to get you on the e-mail list for the book club.

If you have any suggestions for books that you would like to read for the club, please e-mail us and let us know. Also let us know what time of day works best for you.

CLUB DUES
In order to provide the Milwaukee Club and its members with newsletters, invitations, events, mailings and postage, it is necessary to charge annual club dues. Annual Dues for 2007 are $20.

CLUB E-MAIL
If you have not been receiving e-mails from the Club, and you have an e-mail address, please e-mail your contact information to SMCMKECLUB@gmail.com. Being able to communicate with alumnae via e-mail drastically decreases our mailing costs and will allow the club to plan more events in the future.

GET INVOLVED!
We just reorganized the club and we're looking for people to join our committees! Currently we're looking for Coordinators for the Book Club, the Social Committee, and the Mom group! If you're interested, send Missy and Kristi an email at smcmkeclub@gmail.com.

The Milwaukee Club warmly welcomed Adriana Trigiani '81 to Milwaukee!

Our first event took place on November 17th at Harry W. Schwartz Bookstore in Mequon. We had front row seats to hear Adriana Trigiani talk about her new book Home to Big Stone Gap. Adriana shared many stories and kept the group laughing from start to finish. (Click on image for a larger version.)

The Milwaukee Club has done a bit of reorganization. We had our first club meeting on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 with about 10 alumnae in attendance.
