Dear
family, friends and prospective students of Belle Athletics:
As I step into my eighth year at Saint Mary's College, there
continues to be much to celebrate surrounding our athletic program.
The 2005-06 year was one of most successful academic and athletic
endeavors in the history of our programs. On the playing fields,
our golf and tennis teams continued their MIAA dominance winning
their respective league and tournament titles again. Our softball
team moved from the bottom of the MIAA to the top as they captured
their first-ever MIAA Tournament Title last spring. The golf
team continued their excellence with their second consecutive
trip to the NCAA Division III National Championships. Our swimming
and diving team continued to set team and personal records, cross-country
continued their climb up in league rankings while volleyball,
basketball and soccer also finished with strong improvement in
their league standings. All this success continues to mark our
steps as we have climbed from eighth place in the MIAA Commissioner
Cup standing, to fifth place in the last five years.
Our academic achievements continue to shine as
six of our eight varsity teams were named to the MIAA-Academic
Team. Over sixty
percent of our student-athletes have been named to the Deans
List while many teams continue to earn NCAA Division III Coaches
All-American Academic Honors. Here at Saint Mary’s, our
student-athletes are successful both in the classroom and on
the playing fields because we fully incorporate our athletic
program into their overall educational experience. Our student-athletes
have set a standard for excellence for others to follow.
On one hand, it is so easy to list all of our amazing academic
and athletic achievements, but what cannot be measured or easily
listed are the key ingredients that come together for us to strive
and achieve this success. Those key components are the discipline
of our student-athletes and the commitment of our coaches and
staff to educate and teach our students-athletes as they develop
moral character and leadership skills.
The future is exciting as we continue our climb to the top of
the MIAA. Our coaches would love to talk with you about Saint
