Mercy Posts Victory Over Saint Marys

Mount Mercy placed three players in double figures en route to
a 66-52 victory over Saint Mary’s Tuesday afternoon in
first game of the Clarke College Holiday Tournament in Dubuque,
IA.
In the opening frame, Mount Mercy (6-8) jumped out to a 10-2
advantage but the Belles responded with a 10-3 scoring spurt
and closed the gap to 13-12 on a Nicole Tucker three-pointer
with 12:30 left in the half. However, Mount Mercy scored 16 of
the game’s next 21 points in taking their biggest lead
of the first half at 29-17 with 4:17 remaining in the half.
Mount Mercy quickly upped their 35-26 halftime advantage to
double figures and never allowed the Belles within 11 points
in the second half.
In the first game for the Belles (3-6) since Dec. 10, they shot
41 percent from the field but turned the ball over 21 times which
led the 26 Mount Mercy points.
Nicole Tucker scored 13-points off the bench to lead the Belles
scoring attack.
With the lose the Belles move into the consolation bracket of
the eight-team tournament and will play the loser of the Clarke/Blackburn
contest Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m.
