A 1988 alumna of Saint Mary’s, Julie Schroeder-Biek enters her 13th season as the head coach of the Belles volleyball program.

She has long history at Saint Mary’s. Schroeder-Biek completed her collegiate playing career as a Belle in 1986 where she set single season school records in kills, hitting percentage and blocks. Before graduation she served as an assistant coach during the 1987 season. In 1991 she started her first stint when she served as the head coach till the 1996 season. Her second tenure at the helm started during the 2000 season.

Schroeder-Biek has compiled an overall record of 138-194. Her most notable season came during the 1996 campaign when she guided to Belles to just their second 20-win season in school history.

During the 2006 campaign she coached both the MIAA's Freshman of the Year (Lorna Slupcynski) and Defensive Player of the Year (Anne Cusack).

The resident of Cassopolis, MI began her coaching career at the age of 22 when she served as the head volleyball coach at Southwestern Michigan College as well as Dowagiac High School.

Schroeder-Biek playing career began at Mishawaka High School, where she was named MVP of the school's first State Championship Volleyball Team. In 1993, she was inducted into the Mishawaka High School Athletic Hall of Fame as a three sport Most Valuable Player. She earned All-American honors at Southwestern Michigan College. Julie then was recruited to play at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where a back injury cut her career short. After a few years off of competition, she transferred to Saint Mary's College to play out her final year of eligibility.

In addition to her coaching duties, she also serves as an admissions counselor at Saint Mary’s. She is married to Jon Biek. The couple has a daughter, Jessica.
