Sharing the Wellsprings of Wisdom
June 14 to 18, 2004 at Saint Mary’s College

Welcome!
To the Third Annual Wellsprings of Wisdom Conference
at Saint Mary’s College!

This conference was created to support local women leaders like you. At this conference, we look at leadership in a holistic way:

celebrating diversity and understanding culture as one of our strengths
building community and strengthening our relationships
exploring critical issues for leadership and community
supporting our health and well-being

Many of relationships formed here continue from year to year....

Over the last two years, we have brought together hundreds of women from all over Michiana to learn and share together. We seek, create, and celebrate diversity, so expect to find women from many different backgrounds participating. When you participate in the conference, you not only have a chance to discover new things about yourself, but to discover new things about each other.

Haven’t attended before...? Then you're in for a treat!

We offer more than 50 workshops on a wide range of subjects. The conference is designed so you can attend one workshop or the whole conference, based on your time and interest. We also offer lots of informal time for women to meet each other over a meal or walk the beautiful campus together.

Want to Know More?

We invite you to explore what's in store for the Sharing the Wellsprings of Wisdom Conference by clicking on the links to the left or scrolling down the page. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

We hope you'll join us this summer!

This conference is sponsored by the Saint Mary’s College Center for Women’s InterCultural Leadership. Interested in knowing more about us? Click here.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Lilly Endowment, Inc., we can offer this conference without charge. We also provide support to mothers and low-income women through our child care and lost wage stipends.

"We Simply Ask Two Things..."

First: Acknowledge yourself as a leader.
Women’s leadership is often practiced in families, in churches, in school PTAs – in a myriad of places where most of the work gets accomplished, often quietly and without fanfare. Women’s leadership is the sustaining force of our communities, yet many women have a very difficult time acknowledging themselves as a leader. Even women holding positions of authority often struggle to see themselves as leaders!

Second:
Make the commitment to attend.
This year we are asking each registrant send us a $50 commitment fee (in the form a of a check) that assures us you’ll be coming to the conference. If you attend, the check will be returned to you.

If you register for the conference but do not attend, then this money helps underwrite our costs. You can cancel your registration up until June 1st.

A Day at the Conference:

We believe leadership must be participatory. No person has all the answers; we construct the best solutions together. Our workshops are designed so you get in-depth content while being interactive -- that’s why our workshops are three hours. We have not had anyone say a workshop was too long; in fact most people wish they had more time!

We also know that learning often takes place informally and outside the classroom, so each day we have built in lots of space to process, reflect, meet, talk, and share.

One of the goals of the conference is to build and strengthen our community by multiplying and and thickening the strands of relationship. At the conference, you might meet someone for the first time, or meet them for the first time outside the formal work setting. You learn something new about them; they learn something new about you.

As a result of past conferences, women are calling on each other to share their talents and skills. They invite a presenter to give a workshop at their workplace, or ask someone to sit on a board, volunteer in a program or provide outreach to a new part of the community.

We also give you space to take care of yourself. How about tai chi or yoga? Maybe a massage or nutritional advice? Maybe time to walk the labyrinth or just sit quietly.

Additional Information about:

Evening Entertainment

Our evening entertainment is also inspiring and great fun. We have nationally known speakers, performances, films, and of course, we’ll have the now famous "Tuesday night Coffeehouse" featuring local talent!

ALL EVENING EVENTS WILL BE HELD AT 7:00 P.M. IN THE LITTLE THEATRE

Renewal Activities

Relaxing, renewing and exercising should be high priorities for women, but we often don’t find the time in our busy schedules. At the Wellsprings conference we give you opportunities for this. Here 's a line-up of activities:

In our effort to improve the Wellsprings conference each year, below are some changes to our program.

Strands:

The morning workshops will all be “strands” – five workshops related to a theme. They will connect and build on each other so that by the end of the week, the participants will have gained knowledge, inspiration and support.

Interested? Click here for more information entitled: "What is a strand?"

(If you can’t be in a strand but are interested in the topic, several of the workshops will be repeated in the afternoon.)

$25 Cancellation Fee:

This year we've introduced a $25 (REVISED) commitment fee that assures us you’ll be coming to the conference. If you attend, then the check will be returned to you. If you register for the conference but do not attend, then this money helps underwrite our costs. You can cancel your registration up until June 1st. Checks should be payable to Saint Mary’s College. No cash or money orders will be accepted.

Women’s Legacies Art Exhibit:

We’ll be hosting the Women’s Lives, Women’s Legacies exhibit highlighting the photos and stories of the women who have participated in the Women’s Lives, Women’s Legacies writing program at the Cass COA led by Dona Billey-Weiler, a certified facilitator in this national program.

This wonderful program gives women an opportunity to reflect on their past and consider the present powerful tools to write their spiritual and ethical wills for the next generation. Beautiful and moving reflections have resulted from the work. You have a chance to participate in these workshops if you sign up for the strand called: Women’s Lives, Women’s Legacies.

Afternoon Workshops

The afternoon workshops are open to any conference participant. You can sign up for one afternoon workshop or all of them. You can select any of the workshop options (only one per afternoon). If you can’t be in a strand but are interested in the topic, several of the workshops will be repeated in the afternoon.

Note: The workshops are still being developed and a complete list will be available in April - please check back!
