
The formal content of this course is statistics: “the art and science of collecting, analyzing, presenting, and interpreting data.”[Anderson, Sweeney, Williams p. 3]. In particular, we will focus on statistical methods and concepts important for business and economic decision-making, applying and extending the basic ideas and techniques studied in your first statistics course. You will learn to
1. Select appropriate statistical procedures for a given situation, identifying the relevant information
2. Carry out appropriate statistical calculations to implement the procedures with or without the use of statistical software
3. Interpret and explain the conclusions reached and appropriate actions to be taken.
In addtion, this course will develop your skills in working with a team, in communicating your work, and in independent learning through the use of structured learning teams [see below].
