Melissa C. Martin 
Melissa C. Martin currently serves as the Chair of the Indiana Commission
for Women. She is a strong advocate for equality for women in all facets of
society, and has served on the Indiana Commission for Women continuously
through the appointment of four Indiana Governors: Governor Evan Bayh,
Governor Frank O'Bannon, Governor Joe Kernan and Governor Mitch Daniels, the
only commissioner in the history of the state to do so.
Melissa was also a founder of the Indiana Women's Political Network, and a
founder of The Excellence in Public Service Series, a leadership development
program to inspire, educate and train women for elected and appointed
governmental positions.
Melissa has wide experience in the field of public policy marketing and
advertising. She founded her own company, Issues & Advocates, in 1989 and
has worked in a variety of positions including publisher of a regional
weekly newspaper and magazine.
As a consultant to governmental agencies, corporations and trade
associations, Martin has created programs that drive public policy issues
home, into the public conscience. She has facilitated a number of
public/private partnerships and expanded the realm of corporate
responsibility to include a focus on the impact of social responsibility on
corporate profitability.
Nancy Chen
Nancy Chen leads the Midwest regional office of the federal government's only agency designated by Congress to address issues and concerns of working women. In 1997, Nancy became the first Asian American regional administrator in the history of the Women's Bureau. She directs and develops the regional programs promoting better jobs, better earnings and better livings for working women in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.
Under Nancy's leadership, the regional office continues to be a strong voice for women on issues such as financial security, family friendly policies in the workplace, and non-traditional employment for women through outreach and education. She has forged partnerships with women's organizations, employers, state and local governments and community based organizations to help women overcome barriers and achieve economic self-sufficiency.
Patrick Bauer, Speaker of the House
State Representative Patrick Bauer was selected to serve as Indiana's Speaker of the House on Nov. 7, 2006. He will serve in this role through the 2007 and 2008 sessions of the Indiana General Assembly. The Speaker of the House presides over the legislative activities of the Indiana House of Representatives.
Speaker Bauer has served previously as House Democratic Leader and as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. He also served previously as Speaker of the House during the 2003 and 2004 sessions.
During his legislative service, Speaker Bauer has gained recognition as one of the leading fiscal experts in Indiana state government. In his position as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Pat played an influential role in the creation and passage of the biennial budget that funds most state operations.
When not working as a state legislator, Pat serves as Vice President of External Partnerships at Ivy Tech Community College. He also is a member of the advisory boards for Indiana University-South Bend and the Urban Enterprise Association of South Bend, Inc.
During his tenure in the Indiana House, Speaker Bauer has received dozens of state and national awards for legislative excellence.
Pat and his wife Karen have three children: Bart, Megan and Maureen. In their spare time, Pat and Karen spend a lot of time tracking the academic and athletic efforts of Bart, Megan and Maureen. Pat also is an avid reader, and enjoys walking and swimming.
Senator Sue Errington
A dedicated community leader and public advocate, State Senator Sue Errington has spent much of her life working to bring people together to get things done. First elected to the State Senate in November of 2006, Errington has a long record of public service. She has served on the Delaware County Council, the Mayor's Affirmative Action Task Force, the Mayor's Advisory Committee on Health Education, the City-County Commission Against Domestic Violence, the Delaware County Community Corrections Board and the Muncie Housing Authority. In the State Senate, Errington is a leading proponent of adequately funding Indiana’s schools, making college more affordable, and making health care more accessible and affordable for all Hoosiers.
She has also volunteered with local, state and national organizations advancing women's rights and good government including the National Organization for Women (NOW), the Muncie-Delaware County Coalition of Women's Organizations, the League of Women Voters, and American Association of University Women. In 2007 Errington was awarded the Athena Award from the Women in Business Unlimited.
Errington currently serves as the ranking Democrat on the Senate’s Utility & Regulatory Affairs Committee, a member of the Senate Health & Provider Services; Education & Career Development;and Energy & Environmental standing committees. Errington also serves on the Indiana Prenatal Substance Abuse Commission, and on the Select Joint Commission on Medicaid Oversight; Health Finance Commission; and Regulatory Flexibility Committee interim committees. She is currently one of four State Directors from Indiana to act as a delegate for Women in Government, a national bipartisan organization of women state legislators. She has also been appointed to serve on the Health Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures, a bipartisan organization that serves the legislators and staffs of the nation's 50 states, its commonwealths and territories.
A graduate of Indiana University, Errington earned her masters degree from the University of Michigan. Prior to her retirement, she taught Spanish for many years and served as the Public Policy Director for Planned Parenthood of Indiana. Errington lives in Muncie with her husband Paul, a retired Ball State physics professor. Together, they have raised two daughters, Sara and Amy.
