Community Connections

Tuesday, April 22, 2008 1-5 p.m.
Saint Mary's College
Madeleva Hall, Carroll Auditorium

Join us for a dialogue with policy
and decision makers
on how to begin to make change

Although women have made tremendous gains politically, socially and in the workforce, they continue to lag far behind their male counterparts.  In Indiana, women are 61% of the workforce but still only make .72 cents for every dollar earned by men in comparable positions. That means each woman loses between $700,000 and $2 million in her lifetime.  Women also feel the burden of an unequal economic structure in other ways.  For example, women, particularly single mothers and their children are disproportionately affected by poverty.

Join Saint Mary’s College, the Indiana Commission for Women, community leaders from many local organizations, and concerned citizens for an important conversation on how we can achieve pay equity for women in Indiana.  Interactive breakout sessions will focus on:

1.     Best Practices:

How Businesses Can Help Women Bridge the Gap
2.     Women in Poverty:

        What Our Communities Must Do
3.     Opening the Doors:

Education as a Pathway to Non-Traditional and Higher Paying Jobs
4.     Listening to Our Future:

        A Dialogue with Younger Women
5.     A Closer Look at Pay Inequity:

       Why Diversity Matters
