Copying Course Content
Each Blackboard course can be used for just one semester. It cannot be re-used as such, because each Blackboard course id is valid for just one semester. However courses are kept on the system for three years, and any course content can be copied and reused in new courses. The Information Technology staff creates empty new Blackboard courses and enrolls students automatically.
Method #1. When copying a few items from one course to another?
This method is efficient when an instructor has only a few items to copy. If more than a few items need to be copied, it is more efficient to use Method #2 below.
This method use the normal "Copy" button, displayed to the far right of each item in the Edit view. In this case, the destination is not another location in the same course, but another course. (You must have an "instructor" course role in both the Source and Destination courses to use this method.)
1. Open the "source" Course and browse to the item to be copied(a document or folder) .
2. Switch to the EDIT mode by clicking the EDIT button in the upper right corner of the window.
3. Click on the COPY button to the far right of the item or folder (you may have to scroll to the right to see these buttons).
4. Select the Destination Course from the pull down list of your courses.
5. Select a suitable folder or content area in the Destination course
6. Do not check the box "Remove item after copy"
7. Click the Submit button at the bottom of the window to begin the copy and click OK.
Method #2. Course-to-Course Copy
The "Course Copy" method is the most efficient way of copying many course materials from one course to another. Instructors can copy everything in one course into another, or can select specific areas to be copied, areas such as:
- Content
(or more specifically)
- Course Information,
- Course Documents,
- External Links,
- etc.
- Announcements
- Tests, Survaeys, and Question Pools
- Course Settings (including course entry point, Course design, Course banner, etc. )
- Discussion Board
- GradeCenter Items and Settings
Course Copy will add content to a Course, but it will not remove existing content.
NB. You must be an Faculty Member in both the source and destination courses in order to perform course copy.
- Open the Contol Panel of the "Source" course.
- Click on "Course Copy" in the "Course Options" section (lower left)

- Select "Copy Course Materials into an Existing Course" (Do NOT choose either of the other two options)
- Click the Browse button to display a list of all your courses
- Click the Select button to the right of the desired destination ( a new course)
- Selecting the appropriate areas you want copied (Do NOT select enrollment.) and click Submit.
The process will take from two to five minutes depending on the amount of content to be copied. You will receive an email message when the content is moved.

Tests or quizzes that have been copied will be found in the Test Manager of the destination course. However, you may need to re-deploy them to the desired course area.
