The Student-Designed Major
Given the interdisciplinary nature of InterCultural Studies, a superior student may design a program of study that uses intercultural dynamics as a framework to organize her specific concerns. Interested students must declare their intentions by the spring semester of sophomore year and submit a proposal prepared with the help and advice of a faculty sponsor.The Minor in InterCultural Studies (15 hours)
Founded in 1999, the InterCultural Studies minor (ICS) offers students a challenging program of study on the theme of intercultural contact and intergroup dynamics. Each of the courses in this interdisciplinary minor draws attention to the varied ways that members of different cultural and social groups have come into contact, both historically and in the contemporary world, and the results of these interactions. As a whole, the minor is designed to sensitize students to the ways that social life has been and is increasingly shaped by intercultural encounters. Drawing together courses from the humanities, sciences and professional fields, the InterCultural Studies minor serves students with varied academic and professional interests.
Program Requirements
Students in the InterCultural Studies program must complete five courses approved for the minor (15 hours) including the following:1) ICS 201, Introduction to InterCultural Studies.
