Post-Baccalaureate Fellowships
Post-Baccalaureate
Fellowships will partner Saint Mary’s graduates with Indiana
companies, government agencies, or non-profit organizations looking
to hire at least one additional college-educated employee. Students
interested in this opportunity, their external partners, and the
College will work together, prior to the student’s graduation,
to develop a plan to use this opportunity to create a temporary
position for the student at the partnering organization.

An Example of
This Type of Fellowship...
A
senior political science major, who currently is interning
at the St. Joseph County Court, has provided an example
of what one of these fellowships might look like.
If
given the opportunity, she would be interested in working
with the court, or a related non-profit partner in the legal
services arena, to create a temporary position that would
allow her to continue to work in public interest law in
Indiana after graduation.
This
student is an Indiana native who would like to remain in
the state, but is not sure that she will be able to secure
a job in Indiana because of the current budgetary constraints
on legal services organizations.
This fellowship would provide her partnering organization
with the time necessary to explore ways in which it could
add her to its regular payroll after the fellowship ended. |
Specifically,
an Indiana Post-Baccalaureate Fellowship will provide a Saint
Mary's graduate and her partnering organization with a grant of
$12,750 to help support the creation of a new position for a college
graduate. The overall goal of this program is to develop meaningful
economic opportunities in Indiana for college graduates.
The partnering
organizations that receive these sub-grants will agree to use
this opportunity to create a new position and must present a sound
plan for sustaining the position if the fellowship is successful.
Saint Mary’s will provide the partnering organizations involved
in successful applications with a one-time, external sub-grant.
They will use this sub-grant to pay for the salary and fringe
benefits associated with the new temporary position. The students
involved in these partnerships will complete their fellowship
with their partnering organization within one year of their graduation.
Preference
will be given to proposals that use matching funds from the partnering
organization to augment or extend the fellowship period.
It should
be noted that these fellowships are not intended to create new
positions at companies or organization with the financial resources
to undertake expansion on their own.
