The Couple

Kathy and Perry met on July 23, 1999. They met at a miniature golf course in Natick, Massachusetts. They were attending a Catholic "youth" (20's and 30's) group function at the mini golf course - it was the first time either one of them participated in the group. After meeting in the parking lot with the other attendees, Kathy and Perry hit it off. When the large group started dividing into smaller groups to play the course, Perry and Kathy were in the same group. They talked throughout the 18 holes, covering such wide-ranging topics as philosophy, theology, Macs vs. Windows, and Notre Dame football.

After completing the course (Perry won by a single stroke over Kathy, but the contest is still in debate, since Kathy's ball knocked Perry's ball into one of the holes. If it hadn't been for that, Kathy would have won by a single stroke.), the entire group went out for ice cream. After the ice cream, Perry asked Kathy out to another youth group function the next day. Kathy accepted, they had a great time together again, and they have been happily dating since.

Perry proposed on June 13, 2000. He took Kathy to the Wayside Inn (Longfellow's Wayside Inn) for dinner that evening, and after dinner, they walked over to the Grist Mill across the street from the Inn. Perry proposed at the pond behind the mill.

The Wedding

The wedding took place at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on February 10, 2001.

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart (1868) is on the campus of the University of Notre Dame (the bride's alma mater) in Notre Dame, Indiana.

The University of Notre Dame was founded in late November 1842 by a priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross, Rev. Edward Sorin.

The Reception

The reception took place at Tippecanoe Place in South Bend, Indiana.

Built of native granite fieldstone boulders, the 40 room mansion was completed in 1889 at a cost of $250,000.00. Partially burned a few months later, the house was rebuilt.

This was the home of Clement Studebaker and his family. With older brother Henry, Clement founded the firm of H. C. Studebaker, South Bend, Ind. (1852). In 1868, Studebaker Brothers Manufacturing Co. began with Clement as president, and it became the largest wagon and carriage manufacturing company in the world. The company later became one of the world's major automobile manufacturers. Studebaker was the only company to span the time from settler's wagons to high-performance automobiles.

Host to many parties and receptions which were attended by visiting royalty, foreign dignitaries and famous Americans, Tippecanoe Place helped to lend a fairy tale air to South Bend society at the turn of the century.

The great ballroom on the 4th floor, where the reception was held, revives the gracious spirit of the past with gaslight chandeliers, hardwood floors, and ceiling high windows.
