What
is " ?" |
"Find
Text" is a service that searches for full-text
of articles in the electronic databases or
journal subscriptions available at the Cushwa-Leighton
Library
|
| Who
can use "Find Text"? |
Anyone
on the Saint Mary's College campus can use
this service.
|
| Do
I need a password to use "Find Text"? |
If
you are using a computer connected to the campus
network you do not need a password. For off
campus access go to the Library
Home Page , select Periodical
Indexes & E-Journals. You will
be prompted to enter your College
network login and password. Once
authenticated you will be transferred to the
resource you have selected.
|
| How
do I access "Find Text"? |
Some
databases, to which the library subscribes,
are “find text” enabled. When you
find a citation in one of these databases,
click on the icon.
This will open the services menu that
will show you what full-text options are available
|
| Will "Find
Text" always find the full-text of a journal
article? |
No.
There may be no online full-text version of
the article you need available but there may
be other ways to get a full-text copy of the
article.
|
Why
does the icon
display even if there is no full-text of the
journal article? |
The
icon will display to take you to alternative
ways of obtaining the full-text of the article
you need offered in the screen.
|
| What
alternatives do I have if there is no online
version of my article? |
The screen
will display a link to the online catalog if
the library has a subscription to the journal
in which your article appears.
If
the library does not have a subscription to the
journal needed, you will have the option of requesting
a full-text copy of the article through interlibrary
loan.
|
| What is Citation Linker? |
If
you have a citation in hand from a bibliography
or reading
list and would like to access a menu of SFX links
for that specific citation try using the Citation
Linker as part of the A-Z list
of Journals.
Enter as much information as you have in the appropriate
boxes on the Citation Linker form (the more specific
the information, the better), hit the "go" button
and Citation Linker will take you as close as possible
to getting full text of that specific citation.
|
When
I click on the link to the online catalog from
the screen,
how do I know if the exact issue of the journal
I need is available? |
The
screen indicates the library has/had a subscription
to the journal. Click on the link in the Locations/Call
No. column of that screen to
display the list of specific years/volumes
for the journal.
|
| Do
all databases have "Find Text" links? |
No.
Some databases are not yet "find text" enabled.
|
Why
don’t I see the icon
at the end of a citation? |
The
database may not be “find text” compliant
or there is a full-text option directly from
the citation.
|
| Why
are some of the articles in my journal available
full-text but not all the articles? |
Some
journal publishers withhold the full text version
of an article for a time and do not allow the
databases to distribute the latest issue(s)
by placing an “embargo” on the
journal issues of the last 3 to 12 months.
If you are not sure whether the issue you need
is embargoed, consult the detailed publication
information on the database’s web site.
|
From
the screen,
when I click on the link to the full-text source,
why do I not see the full-text of my article? |
Depending
on the way the publisher has structured its
web site, the link may take you to the journal’s
home page. You may have to look at this page
carefully to find the link to the issue you
need and the full text article within that
issue.
|
If
my citation displays a HTML
or PDF
icon and the icon,
which link should I choose? |
While
all these options may take you to the full-text
of an article, choosing the HTML or PDF link
will save you a few “clicks.”
|
| Is
there a Find Text tutorial that I can use? |
Yes.
